Step pedometer is a neat little electronic device, which help you to track and calculate the number of steps you have walked in a day. It can be used to measure the distance you walk each day; where the number of steps are converted into distance walked if the step counter pedometer is programmed to the length of your stride.

Step pedometer may also include other functions such as clock, timer, stopwatch, pulse rate reader, and calorie estimator. Pedometer typically uses one of three methods to calculate footsteps: piezo-electric accelerometers, coiled spring mechanisms, or hairspring mechanisms.

Step pedometer is really simple to use, usually worn on the waist, which you track your daily activity levels by the number of steps you’ve walked. Studies have shown that people who walk less than 5,000 steps everyday are more prone to be overweight where as those who walk more than 9,000 steps each day are more likely to be of normal weight. The aim to walk 10,000 steps (approximately 5 miles or 8 km) per day is a common goal for increased fitness and weight loss.

Regular physical activity can help with weight control. Many doctors advise people to choose walking simply because it is convenient, does not require expensive exercise equipment and it is not complicated at all. For those who have had gastric banding and are not used to taking much exercise, walking is the best exercise of all and you may find it useful to purchase a step counter pedometer.

Step pedometer can really be your helpful tool in getting into and sticking with an exercise schedule. Pedometer is a great way to get and stay motivated in your walking routine. The reason for using the step counter pedometer for exercise is that it will feedback if you are under your required distance throughout the day, so you be able to adjust as the day goes by.
